# AI Workshop Highlights Importance of Automated Vulnerability Recovery

A workshop focusing on 'Self-Healing' technology was held on October 22, 2026, at the Samsung SDS West Campus, emphasizing the growing significance of automated vulnerability recovery in the face of evolving cyber threats. The event featured a presentation by a master from Samsung SDS, who discussed the challenges and advancements in software vulnerability detection and patching, highlighting the need for accurate visibility of IT assets within organizations.

During the presentation, the master pointed out that the combination of 'security debt' and 'automated attacks' has led to an increase in security incidents. He stated that the accumulation of security debt, exacerbated by the speed and cost-effectiveness of attacks driven by AI, poses serious risks to organizations. Issues such as unpatched software and unsupported operating systems were highlighted as critical vulnerabilities that organizations often fail to manage adequately.

Furthermore, the master discussed the risks associated with relying solely on AI agents for both patch creation and verification. He cautioned that independent verification systems must be established to ensure the safety of automated patching processes. The master explained that the phenomenon of 'Common-Mode Failure', where multiple independently configured systems fail due to the same cause, could also affect AI agents if they are trained on similar data sets.

The discussion included insights into a recent AI Cyber Challenge where teams effectively automated vulnerability analysis and patching on a significant scale. The event illustrated that while AI-driven technologies have made considerable advancements, ensuring the safety of patched software remains a distinct challenge that requires careful consideration.

In addition to discussing automated patching, the workshop also covered the ongoing research by Samsung SDS, which aims to automate vulnerability detection and patching by integrating AI agents with existing security frameworks. The master emphasized the importance of regression testing in corporate environments to prevent operational disruptions caused by security fixes.

The presentation concluded with the need for organizational integration of asset management and DevSecOps practices, stressing that understanding one's own systems is fundamental to effective cybersecurity. The master remarked that while external entities can inform organizations about evolving attacker methodologies, only the organizations themselves can accurately assess their assets and vulnerabilities.
