# Anthropic reports record revenue and profitability ahead of IPO

Anthropic published its first official figures ahead of its initial public offering. The company reported record revenue and profitability. The company's revenue surged to 16.29 billion dollars in the first half of 2026, up from 1.16 billion dollars in the same period in 2025. The company is now profitable. For every dollar billed, Anthropic loses only 4 cents, and it is even profitable by 10 percent under less strict Non-GAAP accounting standards. In the second quarter, Anthropic achieved an 8 percent profitability, or 19 percent under Non-GAAP standards. During April, May, and June 2026, Claude generated 11.55 billion dollars in revenue with an operational profit of 974 million dollars. The company's substantial cash reserves, exceeding 110 billion dollars, grew for the first time due to its operational activities, adding 3.93 billion dollars from sales, including 1.65 billion dollars in deferred revenue. The company's performance can be attributed to technological optimizations, known as compute multipliers.

These improvements include algorithmic and methodological enhancements for training and inference, which increase the number of queries processed per unit of physical chips. Prompt Caching, which stores instructions and long contexts for reuse, has reduced computational needs by up to 97 percent and latency by 60 percent for these queries. Anthropic also employs multi-chip management, a proprietary software layer that dynamically distributes workloads across four types of chips for optimal performance. Researchers and infrastructure engineers collaborate from the outset of new model projects, ensuring more efficient and effective versions. Additionally, Anthropic has optimized token consumption through automatic adjustment of thinking effort, streamlined tool calls, and asynchronous batch processing, freeing up capacity to serve more clients without increasing infrastructure. These improvements have led to a slower growth in infrastructure and compute costs compared to revenue. The revenue-to-compute-expense ratio improved from 0.40 in the first quarter of 2025 to 2.08 in the second quarter of 2026. Anthropic purchases compute power in bulk through multi-year commitments, initially used for model training but now primarily for inference, generating revenue.

The company's internal use of Claude has also contributed to its efficiency, maintaining a relatively small workforce of around 5,300 people while automating processes. Revenue per employee has increased from 1.4 million dollars to over 6.6 million dollars this year. In September 2026, more than 90 percent of the code added to Claude's base was written by Claude itself. The volume of code produced per engineer has increased by more than 45 times since 2024, with code quality improving as models enhance, creating a feedback loop. However, the company's debt situation remains a concern. While Anthropic reports minimal debt at 6.6 billion dollars, its off-balance-sheet commitments exceed 520 billion dollars, indicating significant financial obligations.
