# DeepSeek Launches Web Search and Fetch APIs and Updates Harness Software

DeepSeek has released Search and Fetch APIs to provide real time web content for RAG applications and agents.

The Search API returns structured results based on a query, while the Fetch API retrieves a single webpage and returns the title and body as Markdown text. Both are raw JSON APIs using the base URL api.deepseek.com and Bearer authentication. Each account is limited to 5 queries per second for each API. The Search query limit is 128 characters, and it returns between 1 and 50 results, with a default of 10. Results include titles, URLs, summaries, longer summaries for models, optional full text, publication dates, reranking scores, and authority ratings.

DeepSeek charges 5 CNY per thousand successful requests for both services. Fees are only applied when Search returns a non empty list or Fetch returns page content with an HTTP 200 status code. Failed requests, empty results, and timeouts are not charged. For the first two weeks until November 1, 2026, searches triggered via Codex web_search or Claude Code Web Search tools are free.

Separately, a bot on the X platform reported a brief appearance of a deepseek-v4.1-flash-1017 entry in the official API list, which was quickly removed. This may indicate a new V4.1 Flash snapshot. DeepSeek has not provided official details on this snapshot, and the public deepseek-flash remains V4.1 Flash.

DeepSeek also released Harness version v0.2.1-rc1. This update includes a plugin management page that allows agents to create plugins and supports plugin activation, deactivation, uninstallation, and dependency synchronization. It introduces an experimental compatibility layer for Claude Code Mods to verify API functions. Other additions include an experimental developer tool package with NodeJS debugging, a machine translation plugin for thinking processes, and a Git Worktrees plugin. The update also adds a working_directory tool and an independent helper runtime for SSH to support remote file operations and terminals.
