# NVIDIA launches DSX data center design prototype

NVIDIA has launched the DSX prototype for data center design, which aims to use less water and save more energy. The DSX platform is a new addition to NVIDIA's existing offerings, which include DGX and HGX. Unlike traditional designs that focus on single servers, DSX represents a comprehensive approach to data center architecture. This new design is intended to maximize performance in terms of energy efficiency and cooling solutions, leveraging what NVIDIA refers to as a full-stack AI factory reference architecture.

The DSX platform includes several software components for managing data center operations. DSX MaxLPS dynamically allocates energy, while DSX Flex manages workload energy based on the status of the electrical grid. DSX Sim facilitates testing of the data center in simulation environments, and DSX OS manages infrastructure configuration, racks, and clusters. Additionally, DSX Exchange connects processing servers with data center management systems.

The DSX Reference Design supports closed-loop liquid cooling, which allows for nearly zero water usage, significantly reducing consumption by 54 million liters per day for gigawatt-sized data centers. The energy management software, DSX MaxLPS, helps lower energy use by 30%. DSX Flex also reduces reliance on the electrical grid by utilizing renewable energy sources or batteries, achieving a reduction of 40% in tests conducted in the United Kingdom.

NVIDIA has partnered with various companies in the industry and energy sectors, including AVEVA, Dassault Systèmes, Siemens, ABB, Eaton, GE Vernova, Hitachi Energy, Schneider Electric, Siemens Energy, Trane Technologies, and Vertiv, to test their solutions alongside the DSX platform. Additionally, several cloud service providers, including CoreWeave, Firmus, Google Cloud, IREN, Lambda, Nebius, Nscale, and Sharon AI, have announced their support for the DSX platform, which is set to be utilized with the upcoming Vera Rubin chip.
