# OpenAI Acquires Pierre Computer Company to Enhance AI Coding Tools

OpenAI has acquired the developer tool company Pierre Computer Company, Inc., which is the creator of the Code Storage service and several open source tools.

Pierre's libraries, Trees and Diffs, are already utilized in the OpenAI coding agent Codex. Trees allows for fast navigation through project files, while Diffs displays code changes and enables the direct correction of errors within the view. Pierre also recently released Highlights, a fast syntax highlighter that operates in real time as developers type or as an AI agent generates code. Code Storage is used to store code and track its history via Git.

OpenAI intends to use the acquisition to improve the collaboration between developers and AI agents in Git workflows. The company stated that systems around Git must evolve as more work is performed in parallel by agents. OpenAI already uses Pando, its own version control backend for developers and agents, internally. The open source projects from Pierre are intended to remain open source. The acquisition is subject to regulatory approvals.
