# Trump announces formation of Super Intelligence Force to lead AI race

The American president Donald Trump announced the establishment of a new force named "Super Intelligence Force," aimed at coordinating federal government efforts and enhancing the United States' leadership in the field of artificial intelligence, which he described as potentially surpassing the impact of the Industrial Revolution and the emergence of the Internet. Trump stated in a post on his social platform that the new force will be responsible for "coordinating federal government efforts to ensure America maintains its leadership in super intelligence," adding that these efforts will "contribute to protecting American interests and improving their lives."

The new force will be led by National Intelligence Director Jay Clayton, who will effectively take on a role similar to the "AI Czar" position previously mentioned by Trump. He will be joined by Federal Trade Commission Chair Andrew Ferguson, Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Emile Michael, and Director of the Office of Personnel Management Scott Cooper as vice presidents.

This initiative follows Trump's announcement in September of his intention to form a specialized AI force and appoint a senior official to lead this initiative, coinciding with a new direction from the U.S. administration to reshape the discussion around artificial intelligence under the term "super intelligence."

Trump signed an executive order seeking to establish the use of the term "super intelligence," in conjunction with a meeting of several technology company leaders at the White House this week to sign a non-binding commitment regarding AI safety.

According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, the new force has 120 days to prepare a report identifying the risks and opportunities posed by artificial intelligence, with a focus on enhancing the United States' ability to compete globally. The new force's tasks, according to its charter, include devising plans to address threats that "super intelligence" may pose to society, while avoiding excessive regulation or control by regulatory bodies that could hinder innovation and competition, in line with Trump's vision.
