Amazon is reportedly in negotiations to acquire AI startup Decart for approximately $7 billion. The company, based in San Francisco, has developed software that allows developers to switch between different AI chips more easily. This capability is becoming increasingly important as companies compete for greater computational power.
Insiders indicate that if the negotiations do not fall through and no other bidders emerge, the deal may be finalized soon.
According to private market data firm PitchBook, Decart has raised over $400 million in venture capital from investors such as Sequoia Capital, Benchmark, and Radical Ventures. As of May this year, the company's valuation was close to $4 billion.
Decart was founded in 2023 by three Israeli engineers, Dean Leitersdorf, Orian Leitersdorf, and Moshe Shalev. The company is also developing world models named Lucy and Oasis, which can generate and simulate three-dimensional environments of the real world.
Amazon has developed its own custom AI chip, Trainium3, competing with Nvidia, which currently dominates the graphics processing unit market. These specialized chips are core hardware driving the AI boom. Previous reports indicated that Amazon Web Services was impressed by Decart's founders after a meeting in 2025 and offered early access to the Trainium3 chip.
