Analog Devices completed the acquisition of Alif Semiconductor for 1.35 billion USD in cash. This deal will provide Analog Devices with technology for microcontrollers designed for Edge AI applications. Alif develops a new generation of secure, connected, and energy-efficient microcontrollers and Fusion processors. Alif's chips are already in mass production and have secured design wins with leading clients in consumer and industrial markets.

The acquisition adds Alif's Fusion processors to Analog Devices' portfolio, which are originally designed for AI-native applications. This will provide customers with a scalable platform that allows for the rapid development of complete system solutions by integrating next-generation digital technologies with Analog Devices' advanced analog component portfolio. It is expected to expand Analog Devices' potential market in sectors such as industrial, data center infrastructure, security, energy, and robotics.

The CEO and Chairman of Analog Devices stated that artificial intelligence is moving out of data centers and into the physical world, where latency, power consumption, and reliability cannot be compromised. He emphasized the expertise of Analog Devices at the delicate intersection of electronics and the physical world, where signals from the real world become information. The integration of Alif's processing capabilities with Analog Devices' strengths in sensing, signal processing, power management, connectivity, and software will enable the development of new categories of smart systems capable of sensing, reasoning, and operating locally in real-time.

The co-founder of Alif mentioned that the company was established to redefine what a microcontroller can be in the era of artificial intelligence. The combination of Alif's heterogeneous architecture with Analog Devices' expertise in physical and analog systems will expand their activities and provide solutions for the world of physical intelligence. Following the announcement, Analog Devices' stock rose by more than 8% on NASDAQ, with a current market capitalization of approximately 203 billion USD.
