Siemens Healthineers and NVIDIA today announced a partnership focused on developing next-generation adaptive radiation therapy technology. The collaboration aims to integrate intelligent agents and robotic intelligence to combine imaging and oncology expertise with accelerated computing and simulation, thereby simplifying workflows and enhancing healthcare accessibility.
Bernd Montag, CEO of Siemens Healthineers, stated that the two companies have identified three key areas for initial development in adaptive radiation therapy. These include intelligent agent AI in treatment planning, which is expected to assist in evaluating treatment plans and executing calculations while interacting with clinicians. Additionally, advanced patient simulation will utilize patient-specific digital twins to test treatment scenarios before radiation therapy begins. Finally, real-time adaptive computing will help oncology teams better respond to patients' changing conditions during treatment.
Montag emphasized that the core of this work is to aid healthcare providers in managing complexity more seamlessly, making more informed decisions about treatment plans, and ultimately dedicating more time to patient care. Arthur Kaindl, President of the Oncology Division at Siemens Healthineers, remarked that adaptive radiation therapy is based on the fundamental principle that treatment should adapt to patients rather than patients adapting to treatment. He highlighted significant progress in precision and adaptability, and noted that their collaboration with NVIDIA will further explore how AI and real-time computing can provide clinicians with faster insights for informed decision-making and personalized care for more patients.
