Canva has launched its first image generation model, called Canva Craft, developed by its internal team at Canva Research. The model is now available to Canva users globally. Canva claims that Craft has achieved a high score in comparison to the DesignArena benchmark, ranking fourth, with the top three positions held by GPT Image 2 and 2.5. Craft has reportedly outperformed other models in the market, including Reve, MAI-Image, Grok Imagine, and Nano Banana.
In terms of specific capabilities, Craft is ranked first in generating portraits and landscapes, and second in the category of abstract images and patterns. However, it scored lower in the cartoon category, placing seventeenth. Craft utilizes a compositional planning architecture for image generation and rendering, which enhances the precision of the image generation process. The rendering step can produce images with a maximum resolution of 2K and offers over 30 aspect ratio options.
Additionally, Craft is designed to operate efficiently, catering to Canva's 250 million users who collectively generate 400 images per second. To accommodate this demand, two variants of the model, Craft-fast and Craft-ultrafast, have been introduced. The Canva Craft model also provides an API for external users to access its capabilities without needing to go through the Canva application.
