Claude Maintains OpenResearch Fork with New Coding Agents

Claude was used to maintain a fork of OpenResearch over a three week period ending October 16, 2026. The work followed the initial addition of three coding agents: Kimi Code, MiniMax Code, and ZCode.
Between September 28 and October 16, the process resulted in eight releases, ranging from v0.3.3 to v0.3.10. Claude performed approximately 11 hours and 16 minutes of active work over 18 days. This effort included 33 commits, which added 5,258 lines and removed 1,090 lines across 61 files, and the creation of 28 new tests.
The maintenance involved four merges with the upstream version, totaling 121 upstream commits. Two pull requests were submitted to the upstream project: one containing the three agents and another providing Russian localization.
Significant effort was spent resolving integration issues with ZCode, which updated frequently. One issue involved a model selection error caused by the lack of a login process for the runtime used by OpenResearch. To fix this, a sign in button was added to the ZCode harness settings to trigger a login command. It was also discovered that the Start Plan does not work outside the application due to captcha requirements.
Other technical fixes included implementing AES-256-GCM decryption for credentials.json to detect mismatched account keys and resolving a race condition where simultaneous chats would overwrite each other's model selections. When ZCode version 3.15 changed its authentication method to use OAuth tokens instead of plan keys, Claude identified the change by analyzing the runtime code.
To handle the Windows GUI nature of ZCode, the login process was moved to PowerShell with a pipeline to capture output. The total cost for these operations was 32 dollars, whereas the equivalent API pricing would have exceeded 230 dollars.
