Chainalysis, a company specializing in blockchain analysis, reported a breach of its internal systems and tools. According to specialists, the attackers utilized "agent methods of attack," implying that they possibly employed AI to automate the hacking process. As a result, the perpetrators gained access to client data, including names and email addresses.

The incident was discovered in October 2026. Representatives from Chainalysis stated that the attackers managed to infiltrate the company's internal systems and accessed information about users on the platform, including IDs, full names, email addresses, and user roles within organizations.

Currently, the investigation has not revealed any signs that the hackers were able to access the contents of investigations conducted by Chainalysis, account credentials, or session tokens. Additionally, company representatives emphasized that this incident is not related to the recent robbery of Binance exchange.

Chainalysis is currently determining which specific records were accessible to the attackers in each affected organization. After completing the analysis, the company promises to provide clients with more detailed information. Simultaneously, they are closing vulnerabilities, strengthening security, and conducting a comprehensive review of the platform alongside external cybersecurity experts.

Technical details regarding the attack have not been disclosed by the company. It remains unknown which vulnerabilities the attackers might have exploited, which internal tools they accessed, and how long the access was maintained.

The term "agent methods of attack" clearly suggests that the attackers employed AI capable of performing multi-step tasks with minimal human involvement: searching for vulnerabilities, exploiting them, and autonomously building the subsequent attack chain. However, it is unclear whether the hackers used an existing framework or deployed their own AI agents.

In light of the data leak, Chainalysis is warning clients about potential phishing attempts. Users are advised to enable two-factor authentication and to be vigilant about unexpected password reset requests, authentication notifications, and messages from fraudsters posing as Chainalysis employees offering refund services or pretending to be recruiters.
