Meta has announced Muse Gadgets, an open-source project that allows builders to create their own AI hardware. It consists of firmware for ESP32 boards and a Linux SDK, enabling custom-built devices to connect to Meta's AI agent Muse. The code is licensed under the Apache-2.0 license, and a Discord community supports the project.

Additionally, the Meta team has created a device called "Muse Home Link," a small USB-C device that connects Muse to the home network, allowing control of smart home devices such as televisions, speakers, and others with HTTPS interfaces. According to Meta, 5,000 units have been produced and are expected to be ready for shipping in a few weeks, available free for Muse subscribers while supplies last.

The open-source approach is also expected to help the community discover which form factors for AI gadgets are actually in demand, as the final design of AI hardware remains unclear. Apple and OpenAI are also working on their own devices, while Meta's Ray-Ban glasses are reportedly the most successful AI gadget on the market.
