On October 23, technology media reported that Meta Platforms, led by Mark Zuckerberg, has acquired the AI data analysis platform Sundial, which was founded by two former Meta employees.
Notably, the two co-founders of Sundial are both veterans of Meta, previously known as Facebook. CEO Julie Zhuo served as the Vice President of Product Design at Meta, while Chandra Narayanan was the Head of Data Analysis for Instagram and Sequoia Capital.
Sundial's core capability allows businesses to query complex data using natural language through chatbot plugins and quickly obtain actionable insights. For business teams, this means they can independently achieve data insights without waiting for support from a centralized data department, thereby accelerating product iteration, operational decision-making, and AI system monitoring.
In recent years, Meta has been intensifying its investment in data and AI infrastructure. In July of this year, the company appointed former marketing head Alex Schultz as its first Chief Data Officer and established a new department called "Data Analytics Tooling & Agents" (DATA), responsible for descriptive analysis, experimental testing, AI product improvements, and monitoring key AI systems.
Schultz stated that after Sundial's integration, Narayanan will oversee data analysis tools and AI agents. He mentioned on LinkedIn, "AI actually brings almost unlimited demand for insights, and we hope to define the future of AI analysis."
