Apple has revealed the new generation of the smart home speaker HomePod mini, featuring improved audio capabilities powered by the S10 chip, new colors, and an interactive feature that makes the top of the device glow and move in sync with music.
Apple plans to add support for artificial intelligence features to the speaker through the voice assistant Siri in a future software update.
The HomePod mini 2 includes the S10 chip, which supports advanced audio processing technologies, allowing for real-time enhancements to dynamic range, volume, and audio performance, thereby improving listening quality even with the device's small size.
Apple has introduced the Sound Glow feature, which transforms the top surface of the speaker into an interactive light space that changes colors and movements in sync with music, responding to low and high frequencies. The feature derives its colors from the album cover, providing a unique visual experience with each audio track.
The speaker can pair up to four HomePod mini 2 units together to create an immersive audio experience in collaboration with the new generation of Apple TV 4K. The speakers and the Apple TV 4K can determine their locations within the room and adjust volume levels accordingly, aiding in delivering a more balanced listening experience.
Apple aims to enable AI features in Siri through a software update, requiring the HomePod mini 2 to be paired with an iPhone or an iPad that supports the Apple Intelligence system.
The assistant will be able to recognize up to six users through their voices and connect with their devices to provide personalized information, such as messages, allowing each individual to benefit from a tailored experience.
The device continues to serve as a hub for controlling other smart home devices, and it includes a Sound Recognition feature that can detect smoke or carbon monoxide alarms, sending alerts to the user upon detection.
The HomePod mini 2 will be available in five colors: pink, green, blue, white, and black, with a launch date set for October 30. The price of the device is 150 dollars, with pre-orders currently open through the Apple online store.
