Amazon is making Alexa Plus free for all Fire TV owners in the US, removing the previous Prime or Alexa Plus subscription requirement.
For engineers building on Alexa or Fire TV, this removes a subscription gate that limited the assistant's reach. The free, automatic rollout means a larger install base for voice-controlled media and smart home features, but also a broader support surface. Existing skills and integrations must now handle users who never opted into the paid tier.
