Asobi Remote Play brings PlayStation Plus Premium cloud streaming to Steam Deck, previously exclusive to PlayStation Portal
The Asobi Remote Play app for SteamOS enables Steam Deck and Linux users to stream PlayStation Plus Premium cloud games directly from Sony's servers, a capability previously restricted to the PlayStation Portal hardware.
This breaks the hardware lock tying PlayStation cloud gaming to a single $250 device, extending it to Linux-based handhelds without requiring a PS5 console. However, as an unofficial app not associated with Sony, its longevity depends on whether Sony blocks the method Asobi uses to mimic the PlayStation Portal.

Asobi Remote Play is in pre-release playtest on Steam, offering both local console streaming and PlayStation Plus Premium cloud streaming to Steam Deck and other Linux devices.
The free tier supports 1080p 30FPS streaming, while the premium tier (currently free during playtest) adds 1080p 60FPS, HDR, 4K upscaling, manual bitrate selection, controller haptics, and lower latency.
The app is not associated with Sony, meaning Sony could potentially block the access method, and only Sony-approved cloud titles are available.
