Buildroot 2026.08 has been released with nearly 1,000 changes from 100 contributors, adding support for Linux 7.1.x, Binutils 2.46.1, GCC 16.2.0, glibc 2.44, and the M68K and IBM Power 10/11 architectures.

WHY IT MATTERS

This release updates the default toolchain versions available to Buildroot users and expands the range of target architectures. Engineers building for M68K or IBM Power 10/11 platforms can now use Buildroot without custom patches for those targets.
