Comcast rolls out opt-in Wi-Fi-based motion sensing to newer routers with broad data-sharing terms
Comcast’s newest Xfinity gateways can now detect motion via Wi-Fi signal disruptions, enabled through the Xfinity app as an opt-in feature.
This change repurposes existing router hardware for home monitoring without additional sensors, but the privacy policy allows Comcast to share motion data with third parties under vague conditions. Engineers building or integrating home automation systems must weigh the convenience against the lack of transparency in data handling.
