Google Meet reportedly transcribes and summarizes in-person meetings for AI Pro or Ultra subscribers

Google Meet’s update extends its virtual meeting transcription to in-person gatherings. The feature captures audio, transcribes it, and generates a structured summary using Gemini. This removes the need for manual note-taking or third-party transcription tools during meetings. The output is saved directly to Google Drive and shared via email, integrating with existing Google Workspace workflows.

Adoption is restricted to users with a Google AI Pro or Ultra subscription, which may limit its use in organizations without enterprise licensing. The feature supports eight languages but only one at a time, so multilingual meetings may require separate sessions. Google also advises users to inform attendees that recording is active, which could introduce compliance or privacy considerations in some regions.

The feature is designed for meetings lasting between 15 minutes and 8 hours, suggesting it may not handle very short or very long sessions effectively. While it eliminates the need for additional hardware or software, it relies on Gemini’s accuracy, which may vary depending on audio quality and speaker clarity. Engineers should test the feature in their specific environments before relying on it for critical meetings.
