Instagram now lets you add tagged photos to your profile grid
Users can now promote photos in which they are tagged to appear on their main Instagram profile grid.
This change gives users greater control over how their profile appears, potentially affecting engagement metrics for creators and brands. Engineers building integrations must consider that tagged content visibility now depends on both the user's and the tagger's privacy settings.

Users can add a tagged post to their grid via DM notification, three-dot menu, or press-and-hold in the Tagged tab.
Added tagged posts appear in reverse-chronological order but can be reordered like any other profile post.
Visibility of a promoted tagged post respects the privacy settings of both the account that posted it and the account that tagged the user.
THE READ
What the cluster adds up to.
Instagram introduced a feature that lets users promote any post in which they are tagged to their main profile grid. The action can be taken from the DM notification received when tagged, from the three-dot menu on the tagged post, or by pressing and holding the post in the Tagged tab. Once selected, the platform presents an “Add to grid” button with a note about visibility dependencies. This mirrors the existing ability to reorder profile posts that was added earlier in the year.
By moving tagged content onto the grid, users can curate a more personalized showcase that includes group photos, collaborations, or memories without leaving the Tagged tab isolated. The grid displays these promoted posts in reverse-chronological order by default, but the same reordering tools apply, allowing arbitrary placement regardless of timestamp. This gives creators and regular users a new lever to shape the visual narrative of their profile. Engineers designing profile-rendering pipelines must now account for mixed sources of grid items.
Visibility of a promoted tagged post is governed by the privacy settings of both the account that originally posted the content and the account that tagged the user. If either party restricts the audience, the post will not appear on the promoter’s grid even after the add action is taken. The platform surfaces this limitation via a notice under the “Add to grid” button, ensuring users understand the conditional display. Consequently, any downstream analytics or moderation tools must check both parties’ settings before assuming grid visibility.
The feature does not alter the underlying Tagged tab, which remains the repository for all tagged posts. Users can later remove a promoted post from the grid without deleting the original tag, preserving the content in its original location. Because the change relies on existing UI pathways, there are no new permissions or API endpoints introduced for developers to integrate.
