Apple releases iOS 27 with Siri AI beta and over 120 security patches

Apple has deployed a dual-track update strategy by releasing iOS 27 and version 26.7 simultaneously. The version 27 release introduces Siri AI, which is currently a beta available in English, with additional language support planned for October. This new AI is integrated into the operating system to manage apps and settings, aiming for higher reliability than previous Siri versions.

Security is a primary driver for both releases, with iOS 27 patching over 120 vulnerabilities that could allow attackers to gain device control or steal sensitive data. For users on older hardware, the 26.7 updates for iOS, iPadOS, and MacOS address nearly 80 security vulnerabilities. This ensures that devices unable to run version 27 still receive critical protection against malware.

Adopting iOS 27 requires compatible hardware, as several older models are excluded. Unsupported devices include the iPhone X, XR, XS, XS Max, and SE (2nd generation), as well as specific older iPad and Mac models. Users on these devices are limited to the 26.7 update, which adds keyboard accuracy and AirPods Max 2 support but lacks the Siri AI features.
