Proxima Fusion plans to build a €140 million factory to produce fusion-grade high-temperature superconducting tape, a component currently dominated by Asian suppliers.
The startup's demonstration plant requires 20,000 kilometers of this tape, and its commercial plant will need twice as much. By manufacturing the tape in-house, Proxima Fusion aims to secure its supply chain away from China and Japan, where the vast majority is currently made.
