Prusa ships XL, Core One, Core One L with free second-gen “+” upgrades for all new purchases

Prusa Research will retrofit its XL, Core One and Core One L printers with a second-generation “+” hardware and firmware package, and any orders placed now will receive the upgraded version at no extra charge.
Engineers buying a new Prusa printer will get the latest hardware improvements without paying more, simplifying budgeting and part sourcing. Existing owners can later obtain the same upgrades via optional kits, but must purchase those components, affecting maintenance planning.

Prusa Research announced that its XL, Core One and Core One L 3D printers are receiving second-generation “+” upgrades. All printers sold from now on will include the upgraded hardware and firmware at the same price as previous models. Orders already in progress will be upgraded at no extra charge, and the company explicitly stated that no price increase will accompany the upgrades.
The hardware refresh introduces a nozzle wiper to each model, which the company identified as the most requested improvement. GT1.5 belts replace the previous belts, and a new eddy-current sensor that is twenty times faster is permanently mounted. The XL also gains a 360-degree cooling system, an INDX tool offset sensor for toolhead alignment, and ships with a high-flow nozzle, while the Core One receives an improved heat-bed mount and a snap-on top panel, and the Core One L adds an integrated nozzle wiper.
Alongside the hardware changes, Prusa is rolling out firmware updates and plans to release Prusa Slicer 3.0 in the coming weeks. A new Prusa Connect Local feature will replace the older PrusaLink, making LAN connectivity easier. These software updates will need to be integrated into existing workflows and may require adjustments to slicer settings.
For owners of earlier versions, Prusa will make upgrade kits available on its webstore by September, allowing components to be purchased à la carte. An optional HT Hotend, priced at $199.99, will also be offered for the Core One lineup to enable printing of high-temperature engineering filaments. Thus, while new buyers receive the upgrades free, existing users must budget for the separate kits and optional hotend.
The upgrade program does not cover the MK4S printer, which is explicitly omitted from the list. The optional HT Hotend is not part of the free “+” upgrade and must be purchased separately. Additionally, using the new nozzle wiper requires slicer G-code modifications, so engineers must update their toolpaths to take advantage of the feature.
