CRISPR technique removes Y chromosome from male cells to create female mouse clones
Researchers in Japan used a CRISPR-based method called Y-CUT to eliminate the Y chromosome from male mouse cells, producing healthy, fertile female clones with XO chromosomes.
This is the first deliberate creation of female clones from male mammalian cells, a capability that could change how scientists approach reproduction and species conservation. If only male individuals of an endangered species remain, this technique could theoretically generate females to restore a breeding population.

The Y-CUT method targets a section of the Y chromosome responsible for its inheritance during cell division, causing the chromosome to be lost.
The resulting female pups had XO chromosomes rather than the typical XX, but developed normally and remained fertile.
