Waymo opens cheaper Zeekr-based Ojai robotaxi to all riders in Los Angeles, Phoenix, and San Francisco
Waymo has made its next-generation robotaxi, the Ojai, a Zeekr-built minivan running Waymo's sixth-generation self-driving system, available to all riders in three cities, with roughly 300 units in the commercial fleet today.
The Ojai is Waymo's first vehicle designed from the ground up for lower build, operation, and maintenance costs, replacing the Jaguar I-Pace as the path to profitability. However, U.S. import tariffs on Chinese-built vehicles raise the per-unit cost, and the fleet is still small relative to the existing Jaguar fleet. Engineers should note the modular sixth-generation self-driving stack, which is designed to work across multiple vehicle types.

The Ojai is a Zeekr minivan built on the SEA-M platform, outfitted with Waymo's sixth-generation self-driving system at the company's Arizona factory.
Approximately 300 Ojai robotaxis are in commercial service today, and MoffettNathanson estimates 5,000 will enter the U.S. by the end of 2026.
Riders in Los Angeles, Phoenix, and San Francisco may be matched with an Ojai now, with Denver, Las Vegas, and San Diego planned for later this year.
