Game developer Capcom intends to increasingly utilize AI in the creation of games. The company is developing plans to gradually expand its RE Engine, the technology behind titles like the Resident Evil series, with AI features.

During a presentation regarding the future of the RE Engine, programmer Satoshi Ishida discussed the challenges developers face when creating large games. Even relatively simple tasks can take considerable time in games of Resident Evil's scale.

Ishida stated that AI can assist in making game development more efficient. Therefore, Capcom aims to gradually integrate this technology into its development processes.

According to Ishida, the ultimate goal is a future where Capcom creates games in collaboration with AI. However, Capcom made it clear that it does not wish to use AI-generated components directly in its games.

These new plans appear to largely continue a previous direction, while Capcom leaves the door open for a broader role of AI in game development.

Notably, Capcom is simultaneously working on Pragmata, a game that highlights the dangers posed by AI. Behind the scenes, the Japanese company currently views AI primarily as a tool to work faster and more efficiently.
