A Show HN analysis of real browser sessions finds the most common desktop viewport is 1920×920 CSS pixels, not the full 1080p height.
Developers designing for 1080p displays should account for browser chrome reducing the viewport height to 920px. Responsive breakpoints and fixed-height layouts may need adjustment to avoid content being cut off. The data also shows a wide variety of viewport pairs, so testing on a single resolution is insufficient.
